Recently, more than 220,000 second-generation Chinese sturgeons were released into the Yangtze River.
The release continued a multi-tiered strategy of combining juvenile, sub-adult and adult, involving sturgeon from seven distinct age groups—the most comprehensive age diversity achieved in the program to date. The majority were juveniles born in 2024, alongside 230 sub-adults from previous years.
Over the years, CTG has remained dedicated to the conservation and research of Chinese sturgeon. In 2009, CTG achieved a breakthrough in the full artificial breeding of second-generation sturgeon and reached large-scale breeding in 2022. By 2024, CTG and its partners had achieved an annual release of over one million Chinese sturgeons, setting a new record.
