FROM: SUNDAY’S OPEN Q & A Someone asked me, why do we get old. Isn't this part of curse God put upon mankind? Thank you. ANSWER When we think about the original creation we realize that if Adam and Eve did not sin that there would have been no death and no curse pronounced upon them. This would have meant that they would have lived for ever in their original bodies. But they did sin and death did enter into the world at that time and remains up until our time. And as a result of man’s sin man died spiritually in his soul existence, and also the effects of sin (death) began to develop in his earthly physical body. So yes, the physical body became subject to weakness, and to disease, and to aging, until finally death overcomes it. Really, the aging process is a testimony to all men concerning two things (at least): 1. That we have sinned and our bodies are already beginning to see corruption 2. That we will certainly die because of our sin Therefore, old age serves to verify the Bible’s teaching that due to sin man will die. He cannot live long in this world because of his sin. He certainly cannot live forever in this world. 2 Corinthians 4: 16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 1: 9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: Even true believers understand that our bodies will eventually die (if we continue to live long enough on the earth); but the wonderful news of the gospel is that God will change our mortal (vile) bodies into a new spiritual body that will live forever: 2 Corinthians 1: 10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us; And once God has delivered us from the body of this death, than we will have a body that will not age or experience disease or any ill effect from anything ever again: Revelation 21: 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
